Master of Science, and Master of Arts in Teaching

The M.S. in zoology is a research degree at Miami University.  Emphasis is on completion of a thesis based on original research; however, you are expected to also gain a broad knowledge of zoology by completing at least 9 hours of formal graduate-level course work and at least four graduate seminars.  The complete description of requirements can be found here.

A thesis adviser and graduate advisory committee will guide you through your graduate program.  You will present a thesis proposal to the committee for their approval at least six months prior to completion of the thesis.   After conducting the necessary research and writing, you will present and later defend the thesis before the committee.  You are also encouraged to present your data at scientific meetings and / or to submit your findings for publication in professional journals.  A high percentage of our students do so.

The Master of Arts in Teaching in the Biological Sciences (M.A.T.) is a cooperative program offered by the Departments of Botany, Microbiology, and Zoology. The M.A.T. and the M.A. have two main programs: the Global Field Program (GFP) and the Interdisciplinary Science Program (ISP). These programs are designed for educators (K-12 teachers and administrators) and non-educators who want a part-time, non-thesis master's.
