Financial
Support for Graduate Students
Graduate
assistantships are offered to all students admitted
into our Master's or doctoral programs. Most graduate
assistants are assigned to teach laboratory sections associated
with our formal undergraduate courses, but some assist various
faculty members in research activities. Although the
work load per week varies, it should not exceed 20 hours,
and usually averages less.

For
the 2008-2009 academic year, graduate assistantship stipends
are $16,153 (Master's students) and $16,803 (doctoral students)
respectively, and included remission of instructional fees
and out-of-state surcharge. Graduate students in good
standing and enrolled on a full-time basis during the summer
receive an additional, service-free summer scholarship ($1,800
plus a tuition waiver). The university general fee,
registration fee, and Miami Metro fees, as well as the required
health-and-accident insurance premium are not waived.
All stipends and fees are subject to change. The most
up-to-date information on stipends and fees can be found on
the Miami
University Graduate School web site.
Academic
Achievement Assistantship Stipend Supplements of $5,000 are
available from the Graduate School for outstanding applicants.
Those scholarships are allocated on a competitive basis
and are nonrenewable.
