Postbaccalaureate Premedical Programs
Many individuals pursue medical careers after receipt of a Bachelor's degree. Frequently, additional science courses and labs are required before they are prepared to apply to medical school. You have two options: (1) Consider taking some additional classes at Miami or another 4 year college to meet the course requirements needed for medical school along with early consultation with the Premedical Committee at Miami University, or (2) you can apply to a school that offers a postbaccalaureate premedical program. For most Miami graduates, it is generally not recommended going the PostBac route as it can be quite costly and may not be necessary. It is suggested that you carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages of entering such a program before making such a commitment. Most Miami graduates have been successful in entering medical school following graduation by taking the additonal needed science courses at Miami or another accredited and well-recognized school, and consulting with a premed advisor at Miami in prepartion for applying to medical school.
